Since 2002, A Better Chance of Westport has been giving motivated, outstanding minority youth, the opportunity to achieve their dreams through education. With the support of their families, our scholars apply to this game-changing program in the hope of achieving a better future. It is our belief that these young men, through their experiences while attending Staples High School, one of Connecticut's and the nation's top performing high schools, and in their involvement with the Westport community, will become successful members of society, capable of leading the way not only for themselves but also for others who will follow.
The end of the school year marks the start of our scholars' exciting summers! Our rising Seniors are wasting no time moving forward as they sought out and achieve summer opportunities that will provide them with valuable and real world experiences. Adrian Belvitt ‘16 will attend a summer enrichment program at Yale University, where he will learn new skills involving Entrepreneurship. Thomas Jones ‘16 will go to UMichigan to learn about Sports Management, and he will then return as a counselor to work in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the City Kids Wilderness Camp. Christopher Morales ‘16 will travel to Paris where he will experience the French culture in the "La Cite Cosmopolite” program via the Student Diplomacy Corps. Following the rising Seniors, the rising Juniors are gaining experiences of their own. With a passion for tennis, Samuel Larkin ‘17 will work at a local tennis center in Atlanta. He is also eyeing the possibility of playing tennis at UFlorida. Mannasses Ogutu ‘17 will attend Carlton College for a summer enrichment program, and he will assist his father at work in a medical office.
The rising Sophomores, Ali Sanoh ‘18 and Jarod Ferguson ‘18 are both focused on growth experiences this summer. They will improve their athleticism at a football camp session with Staples H.S. at Boston College. Ali may take a summer course at Staples H.S. to expand his knowledge and have a jump start on his new year. Looking to grow and give back to his community, Jarod will work at a local recreational center. Lastly, Jarod will expand his horizon with college tours via National A Better Chance.
Congratulations to Luis Cruz ‘15 for his successful high school career at Staples H.S. and best wishes to him as he starts this new chapter in his life at Boston College.

We are grateful to the many generous sponsors and donors who attended our annual Dream Event for A Better Chance of Westport on March 28. Your participation goes a long way to funding this outstanding program.
We salute all of the selfless families and individuals who have helped make our program so successful for more than a dozen years now – all the great host families, volunteers, drivers, tutors, counselors, field trip coordinators and chaperones, and others who have enabled us to offer this rare opportunity for our scholars.
"The A Better Chance Dream Event was - as it always is - one of the most emotional, warm and beneficial (as in fundraising) nights of the year."
